Fable 100 - The Woodcutters and the Pine Tree

Some woodcutters were splitting a pine tree, and thanks to the wedges that they had made of its wood, they split it easily.
And the pine tree said:
‘I dread less the axe that cuts me than the wedges which came from me.’

It is easier to endure blows from strangers than it is from those nearest to you.
